Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. Announces New Military Service Driver’s License Designation Will Be Available on July 18, 2011
Sample Maine Driver's License with Military Service Designation
AUGUSTA, Maine – Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. has announced that the military and veteran driver’s license designation will be available at all Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) locations beginning Monday, July 18, 2011. The license features a Field of Stars backdrop for the identification photo.
The bill, sponsored by Senator David Trahan, R-Waldoboro, was passed by the 125th Legislature and signed by Governor LePage earlier this spring.
To obtain the designation from any BMV branch office, applicants must be serving in the United States Armed Forces; or provide verification of honorable discharge from the United States military (DD Form 214), or provide a certification from the United States Veterans Administration or other appropriate branch of the United States Armed Forces verifying the applicant's military service and honorable discharge. Applicants will also have to bring documentation verifying Maine residency and legal presence in the United States if they have not already done so (a complete list of acceptable documents can be found at www.maine.gov/sos/bmv).
The driver’s license duplication fee to receive the designation is $5.00.
