Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. To Participate in Operation Cookie Drop

AUGUSTA, Maine – Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. will be greeting the Operation Cookie Drop truck at the Buker Community Center located at 22 Armory Street in Augusta on Tuesday, June 14 at approximately 11:00 AM.

During the 2011 Girl Scout Cookie selling season the Girl Scouts of Maine offered the public the opportunity to purchase boxes of cookies for those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Together with their hard work and a donation from ABC Bakers (the company that makes the cookies) 44,000 boxes of cookies have been collected.  Operation Homefront of New England and the Airman & Family Readiness Program coordinated Operation Cookie Drop to deliver cookies to locations in South Portland, Augusta and Bangor on Tuesday.  The cookies will then be distributed to military personnel in Maine, Germany, Qatar, Kuwait, and Afghanistan.

Operation Cookie Drop was made possible by a team effort involving the Girl Scouts; ABC Bakers; Girl Scouts of Maine staff (the state council); Andrew Matlins, Airman & Family Readiness Program Manager, 101st Air Refueling Wing, Maine Air National Guard Base, Bangor; Donna Chapman, Chapter President, Operation Homefront of New England; R.C. Moore trucking company; Blackbear Signworks; and AT&T.
