Climate Policy Advisor - Public Service Coordinator II

The State of Maine’s "Lead By Example" initiative includes policy and programs by state government agencies in support of the state’s four-year plan climate action, Maine Won’t Wait. The Climate Policy Advisor in the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF) will support the state’s “Lead by Example” initiative with a specific focus on building decarbonization. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across public agencies and with stakeholders to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use in buildings, and to ensure that state agencies and their operations are resilient to the impacts of climate change.
NOAA Coastal Flood Risk Fellowship

Established in 2024, this fellowship provides a unique, two-year opportunity for early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience. Successful applicants will support Climate Resilience Regional Challenge grant recipients as they implement projects that build climate resilience within coastal communities. Each project focuses on serving marginalized, underserved, and underrepresented communities. NOAA’s coastal flood risk fellow will work as part of a team with Maine’s State Resiliency Office staff, Department of Transportation staff, a coastal hazard specialist from the University of Maine Sea Grant program, and a consultant contracted through the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future to help communities use and interpret the Maine Coastal Flood Risk Model. During the grant period, the project team will contract with a consultant in Year 2 who will develop a coastal flood risk model and sea level rise application guide and provide training in Years 3–5 to community leaders on how to access and understand the ME-CFRM outputs and integrate the information into coastal resilience strategies.

NOAA’s inland flood risk fellow will work as part of a team with the Governor’s Office for Policy Innovation and the Future, with engagement from Maine’s Department of Transportation, Department of Marine Resources, and Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, to analyze flooding risks and vulnerabilities in their community and provide adaptation strategies for inland flooding resilience. The fellow will work as part of the team to develop a guide to strategies, tools, and engagement for riverine flood risk. Additional activity in the NOAA grant related to inland flooding could include developing an inland flood model analogous to the sea level rise (SLR) model and related technical assistance and decision-support materials.
