Community Outreach Programing
Traffic safety community outreach programs play a vital role in promoting safer roads by educating residents, engaging local organizations, and fostering responsible behaviors among drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. These initiatives bring communities together to address common risks, raise awareness about crash prevention, and encourage the adoption of safety practices through workshops, school partnerships, public events, and targeted campaigns. By combining education, collaboration, and active participation, traffic safety outreach programs help build a culture of shared responsibility that reduces collisions and enhances the well-being of everyone on the road.
Traffic Safety Education and Choices Matter are delivered by Alliance Highway Safety on behalf of the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Together, these efforts help drivers across Maine understand that staying safe on the road always begins with one decision and that the decisions you make matter.
Choices Matter
As part of Maine’s traffic safety education, Choices Matter brings presenters into high schools to share impactful stories about safe driving. Teens learn how distraction, impairment, speeding, and peer influence affect their ability to drive responsibly. These lessons are reinforced through hands-on simulations and student-led messaging within each school, helping young drivers encourage one another to make safer decisions.
Community education continues through Rule the Road, which brings interactive traffic safety activities to high school sporting events and local gatherings. Fans, families, and students see the same powerful reminders about safe driving choices in the places where young people spend their time.

Traffic Safety Education Services
Maine’s Traffic Safety Education efforts focus on helping young drivers build safe habits before they become routine. By combining hands-on learning, real-world demonstrations, and community engagement, the program shows teens what can happen when they take risks behind the wheel and how simple choices can prevent tragedy.
This outreach happens both in schools and at community events across the state. One of the most popular tools is the seat belt convincer, a device that safely simulates the force of a low-speed crash. Riders buckle up and feel a sudden stop that makes one thing immediately clear: even minor collisions can be dangerous, and seat belts are essential every time someone gets in a vehicle. The seat belt convincer can also be requested for public events, fairs, and community gatherings to help families and young drivers experience the importance of buckling up.
If you would like to book these services for your event, please e-mail info@alliancehighwaysafety.com.
