Yes. An individual account is established for each resident. Money may be mailed to the resident or transferred online at: www.maine.gov/online/correctionsdeposit/main.cgi.
We recommend on-line transactions by credit card as those will be posted to a resident's account without a 14-day hold period. Money for residents may not be dropped off in person. DO NOT SEND CASH. All funds received in the form of U.S. Postal money orders, cashier's checks/official checks from a Maine bank, money orders from a Maine bank, government checks (including tribal checks), shall be posted to a resident's general or phone account within three (3) working days after receipt in the facility Business Office but shall be placed on hold for a period of fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of posting. Money orders/checks must be legible and contain the resident's full name (with middle initial and MDOC number if you know it) to ensure it is applied to the correct account. They should also have the sender's full name and address; otherwise they will not be processed. - WHAT IS THE RESIDENT'S MAILING ADDRESS?

Yes. All persons are subject to search prior to and as a condition for visiting. This includes minor children. Persons found to be trafficking contraband will be suspended from visiting and may face criminal prosecution. The searches may include metal detector and/or pat search. -
WHAT MAY I BRING IN, OR SEND IN THE MAIL FOR THE RESIDENT?
Nothing may be brought in through visitations. LCYDC provides each resident with basic personal hygiene needs, clothing, writing paper, and envelopes. There is a canteen where the resident may buy snack foods, stamps, hygiene items and so on. DO NOT BRING CASH OR SEND CASH IN THE MAIL!DO NOT SEND: Personal property, stickers, musical greeting cards, Polaroid pictures. These items will not be allowed and the resident will have to pay to return them to sender. Letters written in code or other mail that might endanger the safety or welfare of any resident or the security of the facility may be rejected.

MAY I SEND NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES OR BOOKS?
LCYDC enforces the "Publishers Only Rule." All publications, which include but are not limited to newspapers, magazines, soft back books or paperbacks must be received directly from the publisher, or recognized commercial agent of the publisher. Click here for a list of approved publishers. LCYDC will NOT ACCEPT such items if they are sent to residents from home, friends, or private individuals. The resident must bear the costs of returning all items considered to be contraband or non-allowable items. -
MAY I SPEAK WITH A JUVENILE ON THE PHONE?
LCYDC has outgoing telephones available in every housing area. We do not accept incoming phone calls for residents. Residents are allowed to call only persons who are on their approved call list. If you have an emergency which we can verify with local public safety officials, the Social Worker is your contact person during business hours. If after normal business hours, ask to speak with the Facility Operations Supervisor. Our phone number for non-visit related business is 822-2600.All calls between residents and outside parties are recorded unless privileged. Privileged calls between a resident and:
a. their attorney, paralegal, or private investigator;
b. court clerks’ offices;
c. Maine Human Rights Commission; and
d. legal advocacy organizations, including, but not limited to; American Civil Liberties Union of Maine, Maine Equal Justice Partners, LGBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), Disability Rights Maine, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and the National Lawyers Guild.

MAY I VISIT A RESIDENT OF LONG CREEK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER?
Maintaining connection to family and positive relationships is important to the success of every youth. Visits with parents, legal guardians or other approved visitors is strongly encouraged and every effort is made to accommodate as many resident visits as possible.
Only parents or legal guardians of a detained resident may visit the resident at Long Creek Youth Development Center. Parents or guardians, siblings and other approved visitors may visit committed residents. Visitation with a resident is scheduled in advance through the resident’s social worker.
Anyone who wishes to visit a resident of Long Creek Youth Development Center, including parents, relatives, and legal guardians, must complete an application and be approved for visitation. Click here for more information on visitation.

WHERE IS LONG CREEK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER?
LCYDC is located at 675 Westbrook Street in South Portland, Maine, approximately 5 miles from Portland, Maine's Transportation Center (Amtrak Train and Concord Bus) and approximately 0.5 miles from the Portland International Jetport. There is public transit to or from the area near LCYDC. Upon request, a phone will be available for visitors to arrange rides and in addition staff will provide visitors with information on taxi services.
