The following servicemembers are Fallen Heroes with Ties to Maine. These servicemembers have given their lives in defense of freedom since September 11, 2001. The State of Maine recognizes the dedication, duty and ultimate sacrifice given by these servicemembers while serving our nation in support of combat operations.
March 20, 2003 | CPL Brian M. Kennedy
CPL Kennedy, 25 of Houston, TX, was killed in a helicopter crash when his CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crashed and burned in Kuwait. Brian was based at Camp Pendleton, CA. Maine tie is mother of Port Clyde, ME. |

April 2, 2003 | CW4 Erik A. Halvorsen
CW4 Halvorsen, 40, of Bennington, VT, was killed in a helicopter crash when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed in central Iraq. Eric was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, GA. Maine tie is father of Richmond, ME. |

LCPL Bruns, 22, of Vancouver, WA, died in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Kuwait. Cedric was assigned to the 6th Engineer Support Battaliion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Eugene, OR. Maine tie is grandparents of Bangor, ME. |

SGT McMillin, 29, of Canandaigua, NY, was killed South of Baghdad, Iraq while on patrol when he came under attack from rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire. Heath was assigned to the 105th Military Police Company, Army National Guard, Buffalo, NY. Maine tie is mother of Biddeford, ME. |

CW5 Swartworth, 43, of Viriginia, was killed in action when the UH-60 Black Hawk helipcoter she was in was shot down in Tikrit, Iraq. Sharon was the regimental warrant officer for the Judge Advocate General Office, based at Headquarters Department of the Army, Pentagon. Maine tie is father of Litchfield, ME. |

SSG Cherry, 39, of Winchester, VA, died in Ghazikel, Afghanistan when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Craig was assigned to the Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 29th Infantry Division (Light Infantry), Winchester, VA. Maine tie is father of Windham, ME. |

LCPL Arredondo, 20, of Randolph, MA, died in Najaf, Iraq as a result of enemy action. Maine tie is mother of Bangor, ME. |

SPC Merchant, 32, of Hardwick, VT, died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq when his HMMWV came under attack by enemy forces using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenade. Christopher was assigned to the Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment, Jericho. Maine tie is daughter of Bangor, ME. |
