Maine State Library ARRC Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL)
MSL adheres to the Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States and all libraries we serve must also follow these procedures.
All libraries in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and Somerset Counties, as well as libraries in part of Oxford County that are NOT members of Minerva, URSUS, or MILS use the state library for ILL. MSL lends materials or provides photocopies to other libraries outside of the assigned counties
Please download, read and follow the procedures listed in the MSL ARRC ILL Manual [PDF, 257kb]
If your library is routinely requesting 50 or more items per week, we recommend that you consider joining either the MILS or Minerva Consortium. Being a member of one of these groups allows your patrons to place their own requests adn promotes more equitable sharing. For more information, contact your regional liaison or visit the Maine Infonet website.
Submitting Requests
We accept Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests via OCLC, email or through our online forms. Please choose one of the three request forms below. Limit to one request per form. If you have questions, please call the ILL Office at 207-287-5641.
Additional procedures we follow
- New or best selling books, movies or TV series are difficult to obtain. We will not process requests for items that have been published within the last 6 months.
- Any requests over the 50 limit per week, will be returned to the requesting library.
- Please limit patrons to no more than two volumes/seasons at a time. Multiple volumes seldom arrive in order and renewals aren't guaranteed.
- Please contact MSL for renewals within 5-10 days of due date.
- Please notify MSL of returned ILL items to avoid unnecessary overdue notices.
- If your library has 3 or more billed ILL items, we may suspend service until these items are returned or paid for.
