K9 School: Advanced Tracking
The last couple of weeks Gordon and I have been fine tuning our tracking skills and have moved into more advance tracking. We started with tracking on pavement then transitioned to tracking onto grass. It was interesting to watch his first track that went from pavement to grass. Gordon started on the track on pavement and was tracking perfectly. When he reached the transition from pavement to grass it blew his mind. K9 School: The Start of Tracking
Due to unprecedented times K9 training was pushed back. We originally were scheduled to start K9 training in March shortly after being accepted on the Warden Service K9 team and being issued a dog. Luckily for me this gave me more time to bond with Gordon.
K9 School: Basic Obedience
The past few months have been unusual to say the least. Restrictions due to COVID-19 has made some aspects of training difficult and quite different. The original K9 school which was scheduled to run from March to June was canceled.

Casco Man Donates Lifesaving Device to Maine Game Wardens
By Corporal John MacDonald Casco resident John Curtis has been an avid snowmobiler for decades here in Maine. John is married with two adult children, a son and daughter, and works as a project manager for Clean Harbors Environmental Services. John and his family have snowmobiled together since his children were young, often in the Sebago Lake region. John clearly remembers two situations where he and his family had close calls unexpectedly operating close to open water. One of those frightening times was on Sebago Lake.
Maine Warden Services Graduates New Game Wardens
By Corporal John MacDonald The Maine Warden Service recently graduated eight new game wardens at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro. Seven of these game wardens work for the Maine Warden Service and one is a Penobscot Tribal Game Warden. They all recently completed an extensive 13-week advanced academy focused specifically on game warden work. The Advanced Warden Academy followed the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) required of all full-time Maine police officers.
