Congratulations to Rebekah Lowell of Biddeford, the winner of the 2017 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Contest! Rebekah was one of 13 Maine Artists who submitted work in the contest, which was judged on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the State of Maine Sportsman’s Show in Augusta.

Artists Georgie Kanach of Gray and Michael Boardman of North Yarmouth both received Honorable Mentions.
Contest judges were last year’s winner Richard Alley, Jr., IFW Information and Education Director Bonnie Holding, IFW Wildlife Biologist Kelsey Sullivan, and Ron Volk and Tammy Lauritsen from Ducks Unlimited, Inc.
Lowell received a cash award of $1,000 for her winning painting. The subject for the 2018 contest will be the Northern Pintail. Entry information for the 2018 contest will be made available at mefishwildlife.com soon.

The 2017 stamps will be available for purchase in September and can be ordered by calling (207) 287-8000 or visit the Department’s website at mefishwildlife.com. The 2017 stamps will only be available for purchase through June 30, 2018, after which any unsold stamps will be destroyed. Previous issues (1984-2016) were sold under the same procedure and are available only on the secondary market, from stamp collectors and dealers. All revenues from the sale of duck stamps are used by the Department for waterfowl habitat acquisition and management.
