In-Service Training Requirements For All Corrections Officers

*Note: Some private vendors develop online training to fulfill these requirements, and may have slightly different titles. If you have questions, please contact your vendor.

    In 2023, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

    1. New Law Updates - material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office; if no new laws, then relevant case review.
    2. Evidence Collection Basics
    3. One (1) elective on Wellness
    4. One (1) elective topic of choice - each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them. The topic can not be one required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails

    In 2024, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

    1. New Law Updates - material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office; if no new laws, then relevant case review.
    2. Current Drug Trends
    3. Emotional Intelligence
    4. One (1) elective topic of choice - each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them. The topic can not be one required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails

    In 2025, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

    1. New Law Updates - material to be provided by the Attorney General’s Office if no new laws then a relevant case review.
    2. Use of Force - using either BCTP or JBCTP curriculum.
    3. Building an Inclusive Culture - (BCTP curriculum)
    4. Developmental Disabilities & Disabled Inmates / Residents - (BCTP curriculum)
