Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Remediation Grants: Registration Opens Monday, August 1, 2022    

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services is announcing the availability of funds to support provider agencies subject to Maine’s Global Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver Settings rule, referred to as the HCBS Settings rule. 

The goal of this initiative is to assist HCBS providers to implement the requirements of the HCBS Settings Rule.  

MaineCare Support Leads to Jump in Housing Access for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

As part of Governor Mills’ commitment to improving services for Maine people with disabilities, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has significantly increased investments in programs that support improved access to housing. New preliminary data shows that as a result, the number of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) receiving support for residential services through MaineCare jumped 46 percent between State Fiscal Year 2017 and July 1, 2022.

Improving Responsiveness to Requests for Public Information

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) continually strives to keep the public informed about its work. This includes redesigning the DHHS website, creating and regularly updating a blog, developing and updating data dashboards, and regularly engaging with the press, constituents, stakeholders, the Legislature, and the public. Mostly recently, the Department concluded a comprehensive review that resulted in a set of improvements to responding to Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) requests.

On Friday, July 29, we are hoping to round out the third phase of implementing the Department of Health and Human Services’ Telework Policy. This month supervisors review workers’ requests. These reviews will help us plan office space, coverage, and meetings.
