Today, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is releasing an update including July 2023 data on the resumption of MaineCare (Medicaid) eligibility reviews after the COVID-19 public health emergency, known as “unwinding.” To view Maine’s unwinding data report, please visit the MaineCare Renewals Data Dashboard.
This is a reminder that the attending provider is required on all UB-04 and 837I claims. MaineCare denies UB-04 and 837I claims submitted without an enrolled attending provider.
The attending provider is the individual who has overall responsibility for the patient’s medical care and treatment reported in the claim/encounter. The attending provider requirement includes all claim submission methods (paper, HealthPAS Online Portal, or 837I).

Maine CDC urges precautions to avoid mosquito bites
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) announced today that mosquitoes in the York County town of Wells have tested positive for Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV).
This is the first mosquito pool -- a group of one to 50 mosquitoes collected as part of regular testing -- from Maine to test positive for JCV since 2019. There are currently no known human cases of JCV or any other locally-acquired mosquito-borne illnesses in Maine this year.
Maine DHHS employs over 3,000 people who work in 16 offices across our state to provide services to over one third of Maine residents. In 2021, the Department published A Strategic Plan to Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (PDF) and re-launched the Office of Population Health Equity at Maine CDC.
