Coastal Dune - Marsh Ecosystem
State Rank: S3Low-lying coastal areas with sand beaches, dunes, and saltmarshes behind the dunes. This ecosystem is bounded landward by terrestrial ecosystems, either forests or cultural ecosystems, and oceanward by the high tide line of the open shore. Coastal dune - marsh ecosystems are most common along the southwestern coast; they become uncommon east of Penobscot Bay.
