Maine Natural Areas Program

Please Note Changes to the Maine Natural Areas Program (MNAP): As of July 29, 2026, MNAP staff and corresponding responsibilities have been transferred from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry (DACF) to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW). MNAP is now the Ecology Group within MDIFW’s Wildlife Diversity Section. This webpage remains temporarily available on the DACF website.

Until further notice, please continue to submit project review requests separately to the respective Environmental Review Programs (IFWEnvironmentalreview@maine.gov for fish and wildlife reviews, and/or maine.nap@maine.gov email for rare plant/natural community concerns), and you will continue to receive separate comments from the MDIFW Environmental Review Program and MNAP (now Ecology Group) as the merger of the two programs unfolds.
