Habitat: Meadows, fields, moist open woods
Range: Western Massachusetts to Michigan and Kansas, south to Virginia, Mississippi, and Texas. The Maine record is outside of the known range for this species and may be based on a misidentification.
Aids to Identification: Carex is a large and difficult genus, and technical characters must be relied upon to separate the species. Carex bushii is a member of section Porocystis.
Phenology: Flowers mid-May - early July.
