A swarm of small earthquakes is occurring near the town of McAdam, New Brunswick, about 5 miles east of Vanceboro, Maine. So far, over 20 small earthquakes have been recorded from February 3 to February 9. For a summary, see the statement posted by the Canadian Geological Survey.
Other swarms of microquakes have occurred in Maine. They are within the realm of moderate earthquake activity that characterizes Maine.
- April-May, 2011, Bucksport area.
- Feb. 17, 2012 north of Machias.
- The New England earthquake catalog also shows a swarm of 14 earthquakes in Augusta in 1967.
- In the fall of 2006, a series of small earthquakes followed the September 22, 2006 earthquake in Bar Harbor.
April 2016 follow up:
The February 2016 swarm continued into April, reaching 100 small earthquakes before they subsided according to a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation report of April 22, 2016.
