Governor Janet Mills announced today that her Inaugural Celebration – which will take place on Thursday, January 5th from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center – will feature entertainment from Maine-based musicians as well as food and beverages from across the state.

“The inaugural celebration pays tribute to our incredible state and people,” said Governor Janet Mills. “I am thrilled to showcase the extraordinary foods, cultures, and music that make our state so special.”

Appropriations omnibus contains regulatory pause for lobster industry secured by Governor Mills, Maine Congressional Delegation

Governor Janet Mills today issued the following statement after Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, which includes a regulatory pause for Maine’s lobster industry secured by Governor Mills and Maine’s Congressional Delegation:

Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement urging Maine people to continue to exercise caution amid today’s winter storm:

“The State Emergency Operations Center is closely monitoring the storm, and the State is coordinating with our electric utilities, local emergency management partners, and transportation officials to respond to the storm and keep Maine people safe.

With a major winter storm expected to bring rain, high winds, coastal flooding, and freezing temperatures that will create hazardous conditions, Governor Janet Mills has directed all State of Maine offices closed tomorrow, December 23, 2022.

“We want to be sure that Maine people are safe heading into the holiday weekend,” said Governor Janet Mills. “I continue to strongly urge folks to prepare for this storm, to take precautions, especially when traveling, and to check-in on your family, friends, and neighbors.”

Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement on the temporary Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee’s unanimous vote last night to recommend passage of the Winter Emergency Energy Relief Plan

Governor Janet Mills and the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) are urging Maine people to prepare for rain, high winds, coastal flooding, and freezing temperatures ahead of the major incoming winter storm.

MEMA is coordinating preparedness efforts with County Emergency Management Agencies, State partners, and utility companies ahead of the storm, which will impact holiday travel.

Inaugural Celebration to be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023

The Inauguration of Governor Janet T. Mills will take place on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta.

The Maine Constitution prescribes that the inauguration of the governor occurs every four years on the first Wednesday after the first Tuesday of January. Senate President Troy Jackson will administer the Oath of Office.

With heavy snow expected across much of Maine tomorrow afternoon, Governor Janet Mills has directed the early closure of all State of Maine offices tomorrow, Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

Tomorrow is the last day to enroll to avoid a gap in coverage in 2023

Governor Janet Mills announced today the award of $2.25 million to strengthen Maine’s health care workforce by expanding training opportunities for health care professionals in rural communities and establishing a new system to match people to those opportunities. 

During a ceremony held today at The Blaine House, Governor Janet Mills presented four Maine businesses with her Governor’s Award for Business Excellence.

Second Round of Forestry Recovery Initiative Builds upon $6 Million Already Awarded

Following its meeting today, Maine’s nonpartisan Revenue Forecasting Committee (RFC) is expected to upgrade the State’s General Fund revenue forecast by approximately $282.8 million for the current biennium, which ends June 2023. The RFC also increased its projection for Fiscal Years 2024-2025 by $488.6 million.
