The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has awarded $1 million to 24 organizations in Maine under the COVID-19 Health Equity Improvement Initiative, with the goal of supporting culturally-tailored prevention, education and social support activities.
In addition to providing emergency support to disproportionately impacted communities, this initiative will help the Department identify interventions that can have a lasting impact on reducing systemic disparities.
MaineCare reimburses health providers for care and treatment they provide to MaineCare members. This includes a wide range of providers, from hospitals and primary care clinics to therapists, behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment facilities, and nursing facilities, among many others. Over the years, MaineCare has used varying methods to determine reimbursement rates to providers, which has contributed to a rate system that is fragmented and outdated.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) is working to provide increased support and resources through the Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF). The information received from responses to this application will assist OCFS in distributing funds to providers. Providers with multiple facilities must submit separate applications for each site.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides home and community-based services to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD, ORC), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and brain injury primarily through MaineCare-funded programs. These are often called waiver programs because they operate with special exceptions from the federal government and are referred to by their Section number, which is where they can be found in the MaineCare rules.
