A Maine Citizen's Guide To Radon (General information on radon, testing, results interpretation, mitigation, and health risks.) is in the process of being updated. Radon in Water and Air: This document is not available on-line. Most of the information regarding radon in air, however, is also available in "A Citizen's Guide to Radon", but If you need health risk or mitigation information on radon in your home's water supply, please call 1-800-232-0842 to discuss this often confusing subject, or you can email your question (or document request) to: radon.dhhs@maine.gov
List of Companies in Maine Registered to Provide Air and Water Radon Testing Services: (Online Database Search) This is a list of all companies who are registered with the State of Maine Radiation Control Program's Radon Section, to perform radon testing.
It is ILLEGAL to test (collect) a residence or it's water supply for radon if you neither own or rent the home, UNLESS YOU ARE REGISTERED with the State's Radon Program. Similarly, if you are in the process of buying or selling your home, you are also prohibited by Maine's "Radon Registration Act" from doing the testing yourself.
List of Laboratories Registered to Analyze Radon Air and Water Samples: (Online Database Search) This is a list of laboratories in Maine and other states, that have submitted documentation of their radon analytical capabilities to Maine's Radiation Control Program's Radon Section, have registered with them, and can legally analyze radon samples collected in Maine. Whether you test your home yourself, or you hire a "Registered Radon Tester" to do so, to insure that proper laboratory protocols are being followed which will deliver accurate results, be sure that the lab analyzing your radon sample is on this list.
