Radon Mitigation (Reduction) Information and Links

The Maine State advisory levels (levels at which it is recommended that you take action to reduce the radon level) for radon in your home's indoor air is 4 pCi/l, but consider reducing levels between 2 and 4 pCi/l. The current advisory level for radon in your home's water supply is 4,000 pCi/l. This means that, at levels of 4,000 pCi/l or higher you should consider action beginning with reviewing your total radon risk (combined risk from radon in air and water). As your radon in water level gets closer to 10,000 pCi/l, you need to more strongly consider installing treatment. If you have tested your home and it is near or above these levels; to learn more about radon mitigation systems and their theory of operation:

In the state of Maine, it is prohibited by law to install or advise on the installation of a radon mitigation system, unless the installer is either the owner or occupant of the residence, or is registered with the state of Maine as a "Mitigation Contractor". A registered Mitigation Contractor has received state approved training and passed an extensive examination on all facets of radon diagnosis, system design and system installation, and is required to follow mitigation concensus standards as delineated in: ASTM E-2121 " Standard Practice for Installing Radon Mitigation Systems in Existing Low-Rise Residential Buildings." This standard is only available as a hard copy and can be requested at the following website:
