Types of COVID-19 Vaccines

In the U.S., there are two types of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax:

  • Pfizer and Moderna (mRNA vaccines): These vaccines use temporary genetic code to help your body recognize and fight the virus. This code is harmless and breaks down after the immune system has learned to respond.
  • Novavax (protein-based vaccine): This vaccine uses a small, harmless protein from the virus to train your immune system to fight it.
