Our Veteran Service Officers are available to assist you in identifying the full range of state and federal benefits available to you as the survivor of a veteran or service member. Please visit one of our Field Offices to meet with a Veteran Service Officer to learn more.
National Guard families have a dedicated resource to assist them after the loss of a service member. The National Guard Survivor Outreach Services program offers guidance and assistance to families on accessing the state and federal benefits available to military survivors. Maine's Survivor Outreach Services Coordinator will support families with resource referrals for:
- Emergency financial services
- Legal assistance
- Bereavement counseling
- Obtaining reports and military records
- Educational benefits

- Funeral and burial benefits for service members
- Scholarship opportunities for survivors
- Understanding the probate process
- Setting financial goals with your survivor benefit

- Hiring resources for survivors of deceased service members or disabled veterans
