Economic Factors for Veterans in Maine
Data about Maine's veteran representation in the labor force was released by the Center for Workforce Research and Information in May 2018. According to the Center, workforce participation rates for Maine's veterans were:
- 49% of the State’s veterans are active in the labor force, compared to 66% of non-veterans
- Veterans are more likely to have a disability that prevents them from being in the labor force (those not looking for work are not counted as unemployed)
- Overall labor force participation by veterans is lower than non-veterans because most veterans are retirement age.
- Over half of Maine veterans (51%) are 65 and over
- In 2017, Maine recorded the lowest rate of unemployment amongst veterans in the United States (1.7%)
