WHEREAS, it is critical that all Maine students are afforded the opportunity to receive a quality education in our public schools; and
WHEREAS, a strong and effective public school system is essential for Maine's workforce and ensures that we continue to make social, technological, and scientific advancements; and
WHEREAS, educators, school administrators, school boards, and legislators must work together to promote high academic standards and excellent facilities that allow all Maine students to become productive, hardworking individuals; and
WHEREAS, the support of our legislators contributes significantly to the success and achievements of Maine's public schools; and
WHEREAS, an effective way for legislators to fully understand the issues and challenges facing Maine's public school system, and see firsthand their successes, is to visit classrooms and establish productive relationships with educators and school administrators; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Sec. 1 MRS § 150-J, the State designates the month of January as Invite Your Maine Legislator to School Month, in order to promote increased knowledge among legislators of the public education programs provided to students in their legislative districts;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim the month of January as
Invite Your Maine Legislator to School Month
in Maine, and I urge all teachers, school administrators, and Legislators to recognize this observance through appropriate activities, including inviting Legislators to visit classrooms across our state.
