Medication remains available without restriction in Maine and nationwide

Governor Janet Mills and Attorney General Aaron Frey released the following statements today after the Supreme Court issued a stay of the Texas mifepristone decision. The stay means that mifepristone remains accessible without restriction in all states and territories where abortion is legal, including Maine as the decision undergoes further review in the courts.

Governor donates $10,500 each to the Mitchell Institute, Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute, and Camp Susan Curtis

Governor Janet Mills announced today that she has donated surplus funding from her inauguration to three Maine nonprofit organizations that support the growth and success of Maine youth. Governor Janet Mills and Attorney General Aaron Frey issued the following statements today after the Supreme Court issued a temporary stay of the Texas mifepristone decision.

As a result of a separate decision yesterday from a Federal Judge for the Eastern District Court of Washington, mifepristone was required to remain available in Maine and the 16 other states party to the lawsuit without restriction.

Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement welcoming First Lady Jill Biden and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to Maine today:

Governor Janet Mills announced that she tested positive for COVID-19 today. The Governor received a positive result after experiencing a scratchy throat this morning. She will isolate for a minimum of five days, consistent with Maine and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

“Other than a scratchy throat, I feel fine,” said Governor Mills. “I will work remotely over the next few days and I look forward to getting back to the office later this week.”

Governor Janet Mills today signed into law a $9.8 billion current services budget that will ensure the continued operations of State government for the next biennium. The Governor also signed a proclamation calling the Legislature back into session next Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
