Governor Mills Statement on Appropriations Committee Bipartisan Budget Agreement

Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement on the bipartisan budget agreement approved by the Legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee this evening:

“I welcome the bipartisan budget agreement reached by the Appropriations Committee. This compromise agreement takes important, forward-looking steps to invest in Maine’s future by expanding health care, improving our education system, providing property tax relief, and saving money in the Rainy Day Fund. As is the case with all compromises and good governance, no one got everything they wanted, but I applaud both Democrats and Republicans for working together to reach an agreement that makes critical investments in Maine’s future over the next two years. I look forward to continuing to work with the Legislature on the budget and bond package.”

The budget will now go before the full Legislature for consideration. It must secure a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate before reaching Governor Mills’ desk.
