Governor Janet Mills has signed the following bills into law:

Governor Janet Mills announced this morning that she will sign a budget agreement that will create a new statewide paid family and medical leave program in Maine.

The Legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee on Wednesday approved a budget proposal that includes legislation and funding to establish a paid family and medical program. The legislation included in the agreement reflects policy changes requested by the Governor to ensure the new program is tailored to meet the needs of Maine families and the Maine economy.

Governor Janet Mills announced today her Administration is issuing $25 million to Maine hospitals to address ongoing COVID-19-related challenges such as workforce recruitment and retention. This is the second such payment the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has made to hospitals in this Fiscal Year, following a $25 million supplemental payment in October 2022.

Following its meeting today, Maine’s nonpartisan Revenue Forecasting Committee (RFC) is expected to upgrade the State’s General Fund revenue forecast for the current biennium, which ends on June 30, 2023, by $223 million. It is also upgrading revenue projections for Fiscal Years 2024-2025 by $71 million. As RFC finalizes its report in the coming days, these projections are subject to further adjustment.
