Lewiston, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills joined public safety officials at Lewiston City Hall tonight to announce that the deceased body of Robert Card of Bowdoin, the suspect sought in connection with Wednesday night’s tragedy in Lewiston, was discovered this evening in Lisbon.

Prior to the announcement, Governor Mills visited the command post to personally thank law enforcement for their efforts to locate Card.

Governor expresses solidarity with the people of Lewiston, commits full resources of Administration to locating person of interest, orders flags to half-staff statewide in honor of victims

Lewiston, MAINE – In an address this morning to Maine people, Governor Janet Mills expressed solidarity with the people of Lewiston and asked Maine people to join her in helping the city to recover from last night’s tragedy.

Governor Janet Mills tonight released the following statement in response to an active shooter situation in Lewiston:

"I am aware of and have been briefed on the active shooter situation in Lewiston. I urge all people in the area to follow the direction of State and local law enforcement. I will to continue to monitor the situation and remain in close contact with public safety officials."

In accordance with a directive of the President, Governor Janet Mills has ordered that the United States and State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff statewide in honor of the late U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, who passed away today at the age of 90. With the imminent threat posed by Hurricane Lee having passed, Governor Janet Mills announced today that she has suspended the State of Emergency she declared earlier this week in preparation for the storm. The Governor suspended the State of Emergency as now Post-Tropical Cyclone Lee continues to move eastward past Prince Edward Island.

Governor Janet Mills today applauded President Biden’s approval of her request for a Presidential Emergency Disaster Declaration in anticipation of Hurricane Lee. The President approved the Governor’s request late Thursday night.

In preparation for Hurricane Lee’s impending landfall tomorrow night, Governor Mills today declared a State of Emergency and requested that President Biden issue a preemptive Presidential Emergency Disaster Declaration for Maine.

Governor Janet Mills and the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) are urging Maine people to be prepared in advance of Hurricane Lee potentially making landfall in Maine at the end of this week.

MEMA is closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Lee and is coordinating with State public safety and transportation officials, Federal and local emergency management officials, and Maine’s utilities in advance of the storm.
