Augusta, MAINE – Following her historic victory, Governor-elect Janet Mills today announced the formation of a transition team to begin the process of assembling her incoming administration.
“I am excited to lead Maine in a new, better direction,” said Mills. “Working to lower the cost of health care, to build a strong economy, and to improve our public education system will be the top goals of my Administration and accomplishing them will require the best and brightest minds from across Maine. Over the course of the next several weeks, my transition team will work to evaluate and recruit people so that my Administration is prepared to hit the ground running on day one in January.”
The transition team will be led by Transition Coordinators Ben Grant and Jeremy Kennedy. Grant, an attorney and former chair of the Maine Democratic Party, served as a senior advisor to the campaign. Kennedy served as campaign manager. Scott Ogden, the Communications Director for the campaign, will continue in that role for the transition team. Other Mills campaign staff will also staff the transition team in various roles.
Today’s appointment of staff serves as an initial step in what will be a larger process for recruiting and evaluating people for appointments within the administration, setting forth a legislative agenda for the next Legislature, and planning and executing inaugural events. The transition team will make further personnel-related announcements beginning next week.
In her historic victory, Mills earned more votes than any governor in state history. She is also the first governor since 1966 to win a majority of the vote for her first term.
