Governor Mills Nominates Candidates for Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees

Governor Janet Mills announced today that she has nominated four people to the Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees.

“The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees sets the course for Maine’s leading college for engineering, management, science and transportation careers and oversees the education of almost 1,000 Maine students every year,” said Governor Mills. “I am honored to nominate these experienced, highly-qualified, and well-respected individuals who will preserve the Academy’s worldwide reputation of excellence and student success.”

Governor Mills reappointed Jason A. Oney of Falmouth, Morten Arntzen of Norwalk, Connecticut and Arthur K. Watson, Jr. of New Canaan, Connecticut. Governor Mills also nominated Mary O. Shea of Brownfield as Student Trustee.

Board nominations are subject to confirmation by the Legislature.

The Board of Trustees of Maine Maritime Academy consists of 16 members appointed by the Governor. Members are appointed for a five-year term and may be reappointed at the discretion of the Governor. The Board has full legal responsibility and authority for the governance of Maine Maritime Academy, appoints the President of the Academy, approves the establishment of academic programs, confers degrees on students who have completed all requirements for graduation and sets tuition rates and operating budgets among other responsibilities.

Governor Mills’ Nominations to the Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees:

For appointment, Mary O. Shea of Brownfield is a senior at Maine Maritime Academy studying Marine Systems Engineering. She is enrolled in the 5 year Unlimited Horsepower Coast Guard License Program and currently works as a Cadet First Assistant Engineer on the Training Ship State of Maine and as an Academy Representative in the Maine Maritime Academy office of College Relations. Shea previously worked at Tyco Electronics Subsea Communications as an Engineer Cadet and Cable Ship Global Sentinel.

For reappointment, Jason A. Oney of Falmouth has served on the Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees for five years, is currently the President and CEO of Strategic Maintenance Solutions, Inc. Oney previously worked as Director of Marketing and Project Manager for Management Resources Group (MRG). Oney graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1996.

For reappointment, Morten Arntzen of Norwalk, Connecticut has served on the Maine Maritime Board of Trustees for nine years and is currently the Executive Chairman of Team Tankers International and Senior Shipping Industry Advisory for Macquarie Bank. Arntzen also serves as the Board Director of TBS Ocean Logistic, Inc. Artzen is an honorary lifetime member of the Marine Society, City of New York (awarded in 2012), the Maritime Person of the Year, Massachusetts Maritime Academy (awarded in 2008) and Commodore, Connecticut Maritime Association (awarded in 2007).

For reappointment, Artur K. Watson, Jr. of New Canaan, Connecticut has served on the Maine Maritime Board of Trustees for five years and has worked at Watson Enterprises, Inc. for forty years. Watson has been a member of the American Sailing Association (ASA).
