Department of Financial Regulation
Acting Commissioner Cohen leads the Department of Financial Regulation’s efforts to protect the citizens of Maine through the regulation of State-chartered financial institutions, the insurance industry, grantors of consumer credit, the securities industry, and numerous professions and occupations providing services to the public. Acting Commissioner joined the Department as Deputy Commissioner in 2019 and is a former Maine lawmaker with deep experience in law and public policy. In December 2024, Governor Mills announced that she would nominate Cohen to serve as Commissioner of the Department, subject to review by the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services and confirmation by the Maine Senate.
