Division of Disease Prevention
The Division of Disease Prevention works across three focus areas to better the lives of all Maine people:
- Children have a healthy start
- Healthy and safe living
- Chronic disease prevention and control
How do we do that?
- We work with Maine families to reduce health issues and link them to tools that enable them to lead a healthy life.
- We help to reduce chronic disease risk factors for Maine people throughout their life span by:
- Helping people quit smoking
- showing people the harm in tobacco and encourging them not to start
- creating environments that support healthy eating and physical activity
- providing information and tools for people to take control of their own health
- helping people to understand how they can prevent injuries
- We promote early detection and follow-up of: chronic diseases (such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease) and metabolic disorders.
- We support Mainers who have chronic disease(s) or conditions by helping them learn to manage and control their condition while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
- We provide training, data, and resources to partners and stakeholders statewide.
