Water
All public water systems in Maine are required to regularly sample and test their water to ensure that it meets federal and state drinking water standards and is safe to drink. Without proper and timely sampling and testing, the quality of the water being served cannot be ensured.
Rabies
Maine’s Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory tests animals for rabies if they were involved in potential exposures for humans or domestic animals and cannot be quarantined.

Training
The Health Inspection Program has assembled a list of courses and instructors to assist licensees and businesses. The Program will consider other training opportunities on a case-by-case basis. Listing of any particular product or service on this site does not constitute Division preference or recommendation of that product or service over any similar product or service.
Forms and Applications
Submit completed applications via U.S. Postal Service 30 days prior to your event or opening date for the Department to process, review and conduct an inspection of your establishment. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed and will be returned for completion. A business must not operate until an inspection is performed, and a license is issued. Operating without a license is against the law and fines may be assessed. Application via email using a credit card is currently unavailable.
