Senior Care and Burial Preparation

Geriatrics and Extended Care at Togus will be able to direct you to information about VA services for senior veterans. They can be contacted at 207-623-8411 EXT. 5029

Maine is fortunate to have six Veterans Homes around the state that provide rehabilitative services, long-term care, residential care, and Alzheimer's/Dementia care for veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents. The Homes consistently receive Quality Awards for their services and facilities.  More information about eligibility and applying for care can be found at the above link.

Maine is also home to four Veterans' Memorial Cemeteries, overseen by the Bureau of Veterans' Services.  Our cemeteries have been highly rated for their quality standards and customer service by the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration, bringing us very close to the standards maintained at Arlington and other National Veteran Cemeteries.

Details about burial, burial benefits and eligibility requirements at our Memorial Cemeteries can be found at the above link.  We encourage any veteran or eligible family member considering burial in our Cemeteries to first arrange for Pre-Eligibility. Establishing eligibility prior to death will make the entire burial process much smoother for your loved ones.

If you wish to be buried in a private cemetery, you may still be entitled to a headstone or marker, a burial flag, a Presidential Memorial Certificate and burial allowances.  Please visit http://www.cem.va.gov/ to learn more or contact our Cemetery office at 207-287-3481, mvmcs@maine.gov.
