Special election scheduled to elect Representative in House District 93

AUGUSTA - A special election has been set for voters in House District 93 to elect a new representative, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced Friday.

The special election, slated for Tuesday, March 10, is necessitated by the resignation of Elizabeth E. Dickerson of Rockland, who had won the House seat in the November election. Dickerson submitted her resignation to the State on January 20.

In accordance with Maine law, the towns of Owls Head and Rockland, which comprise District 93, formally requested the special election on January 21. On Friday, Jan. 23, Gov. Paul LePage issued the proclamation declaring the vacancy and ordering the special election.

The political parties will now caucus to nominate candidates. Nomination of candidates must be filed in the office of the Secretary of State on or before 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. Petitions for non-party candidates may be requested from the Elections Division and must also be submitted to the Secretary of State by Monday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. Write-in candidates must be declared and file with the office on or before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb 17.
