Matthew Dunlap Elected to Continue Role on Executive Board of National Association of Secretaries of State

Maine Secretary of State continues national leadership in a new role

BALTIMORE, MD Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap was elected by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) to serve as Eastern Region Vice President. Previously, Secretary Dunlap served as President, Treasurer, Administrative Codes & Registers Liaison, as well as a prior stint as Eastern Region Vice President.

"NASS is a great organization; it’s not only a tremendous resource for state officials, but a respected presence in the nation’s capital as well," said Dunlap, who was previously President of NASS in 2010. "I look forward to working with Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, 2014-2015 NASS President, and the rest of the Executive Committee in the coming year."

In addition to his service on the NASS board, Dunlap has also served as co-chair on the Business Services and Voter Participation Committees, and has also served on the Elections, State Heritage, and International Relations Committees and on the Corporate Formation Task Force and the Task Force on the Dispensation of EAC (U.S. Elections Assistance Commission) Duties.

Secretary Dunlap’s accession to this leadership role is timely. Maine will be the host state for the NASS Summer 2015 Conference in Portland from July 9th - 12th, 2015.  The Host Committee for this event is hoping for a repeat of 2003, when Maine held a very successful conference that generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic activity and was the recipient of the Phoenix Award, bestowed by the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Portland for being the conference that had the greatest impact on the region that year.

The NASS national officers were elected by a full membership vote at their 2014 Summer Conference, held on July 16th in Baltimore, Maryland. They will serve a one-year term, ending in July 2015.
