Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. Reminds Voters of Upcoming Referendum Election

AUGUSTA, Maine Secretary of State Charlie Summers would like to remind voters about the upcoming Referendum Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. This year voters will be able to weigh in on four referendum questions, as well as several county-specific measures. To learn about each question, voters can access the 2011 Maine Citizens Guide to the Referendum Election posted the Secretary of States website or request a copy from the Division of Elections.

Secretary Summers would also like to remind voters that the new deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is the Thursday prior to Election Day, as stated in Public Law 2011, Chapter 399. For the November 8, 2011 Referendum Election, the deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, November 3, 2011. A voter may request an absentee ballot after the deadline only under certain circumstances. All absentee ballots must be submitted to the municipal clerk by 8:00 PM on Election Day.

Eligible Maine residents may register to vote on Election Day. Proof of identity and proof of residency, such as a Maine drivers license or utility bill, is required to register.
