The definition of homeless students are defined in Maine Title 20-A, Part 1, Chapter 1, Definitions, 13-A.
Actually enrolling the student depends on who is actually paying for the student.
If a student is identified as homeless during the current school year you ONLY update night time residence. These examples below are only for the following years enrollment.
Example: Student meets the definition of homeless above, lives in District A, but attends school in District B
If District B is paying for the student, then Option 1 or Option 2 may be used. If District A is paying, then use Option 3
Option 1:
- District B enrolls Primary
- Resident Town = town within District B
- Fiscal Responsibility = Resident of School Unit
Option 2:
- District B enrolls Primary
- Resident Town = town within District A
- Fiscal Responsibility = Superintendent Agreement
*The use of the Superintendent Agreement term is for fiscal responsibility only and does not imply that a "Superintendent Agreement" physically exists.
Option 3:
- District B enrolls Primary
- Resident Town = town within District A
- Fiscal Responsibility = Paid by Resident SAU
