The Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) provides professional development and 21st Century learning tools to to Maine’s K-12 public schools to support the attainment of Maine's college and career readiness standards.
The MLTI has at its core 5 operational goals:
- Equity
- Integration with Maine’s Learning Results
- Sustainability/Avoiding Obsolescence
- Teacher Preparation and Professional Development
- Economic Development
The Maine Learning Technology Initiative made Maine the first state to seize the potential of technology to transform teaching and learning in classrooms statewide. Maine is not only the first statewide 1:1 learning with technology initiative, but it is still the country’s largest 1:1 program. MLTI currently deploys devices (both tablet and laptop computers) to over 80,000 teachers and students provided by multiple technology solution providers. Each participating school was able to select a solution that worked best for them. In addition to the devices and four years of technical support, the program provides participating schools with software and other learning tools, internet connectivity, and training for educators and school leaders.
Technology Provision
The MLTI Device program is in its 23rd year of operation and currently offers Maine schools a new 1:1 device for a specified grade level per year.
